Some cosmetic products are labeled “sulfate free”. What does this mean?
A cosmetic chemist, Ni’Kita Wilson explained: “Sulfates are detergents and they’re extremely good at what they do, cleansing your hair and scalp by cutting through dirt and grime.”
So why is it good to use sulfate free shampoo?
Ms. Wilson explains: “This shampoo is a product that doesn't completely wash away hair moisture. The difference between shampoos with and without sulfate is that sulfate free shampoos don’t foam. They are also more difficult to thicken, which means that chemists have to add more ingredients to make a nice product.”
Who should use sulfate free shampoo?
People with dry, fragile or curly hair and those with a sensitive scalp should start using shampoo without sulfate.
On the other hand, if your hair tends to get really oily, stick to your ordinary shampoo routine, as sulfate free shampoos won’t thoroughly clean your hair.
