Both epidemiological and pre-clinical studies have suggested that consuming coffee regularly has a protective effect against basal cell skin cancers.

Basal cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer most commonly diagnosed in the United States. Even though it’s slow growing, it causes considerable morbidity and places a burden on health care systems.

The data indicates that the more caffeinated coffee you consume, the lower your risk of developing basal cell carcinoma is.

Even though it’s not recommended to increase your coffee intake based on this data alone, the results of this research add basal cell carcinoma to a list of medical conditions that can be helped by increasing coffee intake.

The protective effect for cutaneous melanoma is less clear, according to a study published in Cancer research.
